A handful of buildings from those eras survive today, protected under heritage law as the few physical links to the district's oldest past. During the Star City Empire, part of the area even served as a small municipal airport, since replaced entirely by the growth around it. The district's shape has changed again and again — through natural disasters, wartime damage, and shifting infrastructure.
