Two-Bird's History Corner #2: M1943 Field Uniform The M1943 Field Uniform was the succeeding garment to the inadequate M1941 kit. Many previous issues were fixed, including a darker olive coloring for camo, windproof cotton/sateen cloth for elemental resistance, bigger pockets with less angling, and the jacket's length was extended down to the lower portion of the upper thighs. Beyond the M1941 uniform, it replaced a variety of other specialist uniforms, like the M1942 Paratrooper Jump Uniform. The canvas leggings worn with service shoes were completely replaced by the more practical M1943 Combat Service Boots, aka. the "Buckle Boots", However, like the M1941 uniform, the leggings were still sometimes worn by troops in the later part of World War 2. The uniform was first tested in 1943 by the 45th Infantry Division "Thunderbird" and the 3rd Infantry Division "Rock of the Marne" , but shipping delays and logistical difficulties delayed widespread issuance until late 1944. Paratrooper variations were nearly identical to standard infantry, with the exceptions of additional cargo pockets on the trousers, and standard paratrooper boots in favor of the buckle boots.
