by nebestetic · 2026-09-10 · Maps

On July 6, 1976, the T‑80 main battle tank was adopted by the tank forces of the Soviet Army; it became the world’s first tank with a gas turbine power plant. It was the gas turbine engine, or GTE, that determined the unique tactical and technical characteristics of the T‑80; it also explains the ongoing interest in it and its popularity. 50 years is quite a long time for military equipment. Despite its considerable age, the vehicle is still in service today and is rightfully considered one of the best in its class.
