San Felipe de Neri Church, Albuquerque, New Mexico (Iglesia de San Felipe de Neri) 1 : 1.5 scale preview

Built in 1793, San Felipe de Neri is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Albuquerque. It was built to replace the original Franciscan mission, which had collapsed. The bell towers and pitched roofs were added during the mid-19th century, but the original thick adobe walls and vigas remain, resulting in the current eclectic mix of colonial Spanish and neo-Gothic elements. The one-story building with papel picado banners hanging on the front (images 11 &12) was Albuquerque's first public school, built by Jesuits in 1878. In photos 13 & 14 you can see a large cottonwood stump with the Guadelupe carved into it. The tree was in the parking lot until it died. I am working on the rest of the Old Town Plaza.
