Mcheli content: T30 heavy tank preview

The T30 Heavy Tank was an American heavy tank developed during World War II as a means of countering German tanks and self-propelled guns such as the Tiger II and the Jagdtiger. In 1944, plans were put forward to create four experimental heavy tanks: two T29s armed with 105 mm guns and two T30s equipped with 155 mm guns. Work on the project began in 1945, and by 1947 the first T30 was delivered to the Aberdeen Proving Ground for testing. The T30 was fitted with the most powerful 155 mm gun of its time, the T7 L/41, which was capable of easily penetrating any tank of a potential adversary. In addition, the tank had fairly strong armor, reaching up to 279 mm in its thickest areas. However, the vehicle’s weight exceeded 65 tons, which made it sluggish and led to problems with the transmission and suspension. Despite the fact that the T30 underwent testing for two years, on September 1, 1950, it was abandoned along with the T29 project. Several surviving examples have endured to the present day: one surviving T30 is located at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Michigan, and another at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Armament: 1. 155mm gun. 2. 12.7 coaxial machine gun. Shells: 1. AP projecti
